Five days before we were supposed to go on vacation my youngest daughter comes down with something. She's been pooping like a fountain of filth for almost a week now. So far the labs haven't turned up anything and she's otherwise healthy - no fever, vomiting, or malaise, aside from nuclear diaper rash.

Aargh. Now I don't get any vacation this year (at least I can cash in my surplus for 100% hourly value at the end of the fiscal year) AND I have a miserable and poopy 1-year old, who is also the cutest little girl you've ever seen in your life. Aside from the foamy green yick coming out of her diaper 8 or 9 times a day.

So I swam a mile before 7 am, and tonight one of these

Damn how old is this one? We almost had to cancel the yearly St. Marteen trip one year because of this, she came out of it 2 days left until boarding. Have some additional superchunk as my condolence. This one is like my anthem

11 months old today. The day she started with this my wife left for a conference in Dallas. I ended up being the lone parent for four days. We got into a pretty good routine of washing off in the bath with the shower nozzle after every poo, as cleaning using wipes with that diaper rash was too agonizing (for both of us). I had her at the children's hospital on Wednesday for tests, and they're back at our GP's today for more. We ruled out the nasty stuff like shigella, giardia and C-diff at least. Could be a lactose issue. Could be a bacterial imbalance, while not being quite an infection. Who knows! Anybody's guess! And her bouts are completely random, so she could be fine all day but go 6 times in a night... like last night. Massive quantities of fun.

The older I get, the more I love Superchunk. Mac is hella nice too. Met him and his wife, who has a restaurant in Chapel Hill called Lantern, while I was couch crashing following a disastrous attempt to take a job in Ireland. Fourth of July party at their house with 50 other Carrboro locals, and I didn't even get stoopid. Cool town.

Yeah I met him 20 years ago at a record shop in Mystic, CT he used to frequent when he was at his summer place there. Super cool humble dude. I drove from Maine to NYC to see them last year. even without Laura they killed it.

Fingers crossed. Wife just reported the fourth one this morning, and it was a 'splodie. I get to clean the leather in her HIghlander when I get home. Mmm. Green feces roasting all day in the Texas sun. Can't wait.
